For residential deliveries involving large items, LTL shipping is usually the most efficient and practical way to get your shipments to your customers. This method of shipping comes with some unique issues that can sometimes make it a little challenging. Here are seven secrets that will help make your LTL residential deliveries problem-free.

#1. Verifying Consignee Information

Mistakes can happen on both ends, so you should always verify the customer’s address. If there is a mistake and the shipment is sent to the wrong address, the result could be costly. It’s worth your time to stop and be proactive to make sure the address entered by the customer is correct.

#2. Confirming Customer Contact Info

If you were receiving a piece of furniture or appliance, you wouldn’t want it sitting at the curb until you came home from work. The carrier relies on the customer contact information that you have listed on the bill of lading to schedule a delivery. Make sure that the information is correct so that a delivery time can be scheduled.

#3. Avoiding Delays

Once your LTL shipment arrives at the destination terminal. The carrier will call the consignee to set up the delivery appointment. You can speed up this process by providing your customer with the terminal phone number so they can call directly without having to wait for the carrier to call.

#6. Confirm Whether a Lift Gate is Needed

Most residential deliveries weighing over 100 lbs.need a lift gate at the time of delivery. Since homes do not have loading docks, is it a good idea to book residential LTL deliveries with lift gate so that the freight can be unloaded.
